Orkney's Swannay Brewery has been named the overall Champion of Keg Beers at a major brewing industry event.
The brewery's 'Muckle IPA' claimed the Overall Champion Gold medal in the craft keg competition at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Independent Beer Awards 2019 ceremony in Liverpool.
The 6.6% beer won its Imperial IPA section to go forward for gold. The beer also won silver in the Bottle/Can Imperial IPA (6.5% & Over) section.
'Muckle IPA' is part of Swannay's 'Mutiny Range' and is described as 'one mighty IPA' ('muckle' in Orkney dialect means 'big').
It was a successful night for Orkney's two breweries, with the Orkney Brewery's 'Skullsplitter' scooping an overall bronze in the craft keg category after winning its Strong Beers section.
Judged by brewers and industry experts and organised by SIBA at its flagship BeerX UK event, the awards run across a huge range of beer style categories in cask, craft keg, bottle and can.
The awards are the trade association’s National finals brewers must win at their regional competition to gain a place – making these overall Champions the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to British independent craft beer.
