August is here and that means the return of Orkney’s agricultural show season!
As always, Orkney ‘s finest food and drink producers will be taking part, with visitors able to sample the very best of the local larder. From beef to cheese, fish to ice-cream and much more, you’re bound to find something to tickle your tastebuds.
Look out for the Orkney village indoors at the ‘Food Hall’ at the Dounby Show on the 10th of August, where you’ll be able to try and buy products from The Dounby Butcher, Greentoft Farm Produce, The Island Smokery, Orkney Fishermen’s Society, the Orkney Creamery, Humes and Peedie Chocs & Desserts.
The same group will be joined by Orkney Isles Preserves at the County Show on Saturday 12th. The Dounby Butcher will be manning the BBQ at both shows too, so make sure you bring your appetite!
Orkney Food and Drink Development Manager, Edgar Balfour, said: “Show season is a very important part of the summer in Orkney and, with thousands of people set to come in through the gates, it’s a really good opportunity for some of our members to promote their products. We’re all looking forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike and giving them all a real taste of Orkney.”
