Orkney producers are Edinburgh bound

June 17th 2019

Some of Orkney’s finest food and drink businesses will be heading to the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh this weekend.

Ten local firms will showcase their products at the event, now in its 179th year, between the 20th and 23rd of June.

The bespoke Orkney stands will be placed next to the chef demonstration stage in the 'Scotland’s Larder Live' hall, which it’s hoped could lead to a busy few days for the island representatives.

The Orkney Food and Drink members heading south include all three local gin producers; the Deerness Distillery, Orkney Distilling and the Orkney Gin Company. They’ll be joined by J.Gow Rum and the Orkney Wine Company, which will be attending for the first time.

Orkney Cheese and the Island Smokery will also be taking part, along with the Orkney Creamery, Stockans Oatcakes and the Westray Bakehouse.

Nearly 200,000 people are expected to attend the show this year. The Orkney presence at the event is supported by LEADER, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Orkney Islands Council.

Edgar Balfour, Project Manager for Orkney Food & Drink, said: “The Royal Highland Show is one of the main events of our year. It’s a tremendous opportunity for our food and drink firms, giving them the chance to really showcase the fantastic products we have here in the islands and reach thousands of potential new customers. It’s such a busy, vibrant show, and we’re especially excited about where our Orkney village will be this year, so everyone is really looking forward to the weekend.”
