Artisan Bread & Scandinavian Flavours
Orkney Sourdough Co is a small bakery in the heart of Kirkwall run by Karin.
Different types of sourdough breads are offered – breads with flours like wheat, wholemeal, rye, spelt and the local bere meal.
Great produce and traditional artisan methods are used in the making of the bread.
All the breads are made with organic ingredients found locally and also from other parts of Scotland and the UK.
Orkney Sourdough Co bread is as healthy as it is delicious. The baker Karin lets the dough and gluten take time to develop full flavours through fermentation - from starting a batch of dough until bake takes 48 hours.
The owner and baker is Karin, a Swede with a passion for sourdough. She used to be a chef in Copenhagen and loves the amazing produce found in Orkney and the rest of Scotland. "I find similarities here in Orkney. Similarities to Scandinavian culture, heritage and flavours. I'm very keen on applying the Scandinavian flavours to the Orkney produce", she says.
Karin strives to run the business in as sustainable a way as possible - all from use of energy, organic and local ingredients, wastage, delivery and packaging.
Orkney Sourdough Co offer a bread to order service to reduce waste. Pick up order at bakery or delivery in central Kirkwall (by foot) is also available.
