J. Gow Rum of Orkney is celebrating after being named a finalist in the Distilled Drinks category of the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.
J. Gow Spiced rum is a pot distilled rum made from molasses and infused with seven spices from around the world, including two secret ingredients grown in Orkney. Unlike other spiced rums, it’s unsweetened and can be enjoyed straight or over ice.
Only 44 businesses made the prestigious awards shortlist, spanning 14 diverse categories and ranging from Restaurant of the Year, to Young Ambassador of the Year.
Delivered with support from Highlands & Islands Enterprise, the awards celebrate quality, innovation and growth in one of Scotland’s most prosperous industries. Running for 13 years now, they showcase the diversity and excellence of the region’s food and drink industry, contributing to the reputation of Highlands & Islands as a world food destination.
Collin van Schayk, director of VS Distillers Ltd, said: “After our success at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) we were delighted to be shortlisted for another award. We’re up against some world class competition, but overwhelmed to have got this far, especially in our first year. We’re also looking forward to releasing our chestnut barrel aged white rum later in the year.”
Winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony, hosted by STV Presenter, Jennifer Reoch, which takes place in the Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness, on Friday 5 October 2018. Tickets for the awards dinner are now on sale.
