Some of Orkney’s finest food and drink companies will be showcasing their products at the BBC Good Food Show in Glasgow this week.
The Orkney Bakery (Argo’s), the Island Smokery and the Westray Bakehouse will all bring a taste of the islands to the SEC for the event, which runs between the 20th and 22nd of October. They’ll join hundreds of exhibitors from around the country over the weekend.
The Scotland show puts a big emphasis on the very best local cuisine and products, with demonstrations from top Scottish chefs, pop-up restaurants, samplings and much more.
Although the Orkney Bakery and the Island Smokery are regular attendees, it’s the first trip south for the newly rebranded Westray Bakehouse. The company, based in Pierowall, has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with its products proving very popular locally. The business also claimed the Special Prize for Continued Excellence at the 2016 Orkney Food and Drink Awards.
Development Manager for Orkney Food and Drink, Edgar Balfour, said: “The BBC Good Food Show is always a very popular event and attracts thousands of visitors over its three days. We’re delighted to have a small but strong local contingent travelling down, and we’re all looking forward to a busy weekend. It’s great to see The Westray Bakehouse attend for the first time too, and we’re sure they’ll see the benefits from this chance to increase their profile and reach new customers.”
