Orkney’s east mainland has always been a beautiful place to visit, with stunning stretches of coastline, cliffs, beaches and much more. Now one of our Orkney Food and Drink members has provided another reason to make a trip east a priority!
The Deerness Distillery boasts a brand-new tasting room and shop, full of the company’s fantastic gin, vodka and merchandise. There is also a new viewing area where visitors can watch the distilling process in the purpose-built facility.
It has been a busy twelve months for Stuart and Adelle Brown from the Deerness Distillery. They began production last year and have been building their brand by attending trade fairs and other events across the UK. The Distillery claimed ‘Global Luxury Spirit Masters’ silver medals for its ‘Sea Glass Gin’ and ‘Into the Wild Vodka’ in 2017 too.
The new addition to the building will now give visitors the chance to taste test the latest Deerness Distillery products and take part in a personalised tour. The shop is stocked with local arts and crafts from the parish, Orkney and Scotland, and takeaway teas, coffees, cold drinks and snacks are available too.
“It was always our intention to include a visitor area to showcase what we do here and to share our story,” said Stuart from the Deerness Distillery. “We want to highlight our process and our love for spirits, as well as promoting the parish to the wider world too. Hopefully folk will come out for a walk at the Gloup, Mull Head or on the beaches, then head up to us for a visit and a browse of the shop.”
The new facilities opened at the end of April and tours and visits should be arranged in advance. You can keep up to date with developments and find out how to get in touch to arrange a visit via the Deerness Distillery Facebook page and the official website. You can also find the Distillery on Instagram and Twitter.
