The countdown to the 2016 Orkney Food and Drink Awards has begun, with organisers urging anyone who’d like to attend the event to book a place as soon as possible.
Tickets for the awards ceremony and gala dinner - being held in Stromness Academy, at 7pm for 7.30pm, on Saturday 15 October – are selling fast.
Thirty-six local food and drink business are in the running for 16 different awards, covering everything from the best breakfasts, lunches and evening meals, to the finest bakery, drink, meat, fish and dairy products. Prizes for the top marketing initiative and new product are up for grabs too, with a special continued excellence award also being presented.
Event guests will be treated to an evening of entertainment and a top-class four-course meal, made using local produce. Presentation of the 2016 Orkney Food and Drink Awards will round off the night.
Tickets, costing £36, are available from Argo’s shops in Kirkwall and Stromness, and directly from Edgar Balfour, development manager for Orkney food, drink and crafts, on 01856 761430.
He said: “With less than two weeks left until the awards, demand for tickets is increasing, but we don’t want anyone missing out on what promises to be a fantastic night of entertainment and great food. If you want to come, but you haven’t yet booked your seat, you’re going to have to be fast!”
Edgar added: “It’s important to emphasise that you don’t have to be a shortlisted business, or working in the local food and drink industry to attend the awards. Anyone who appreciates a fine meal and a good night out is welcome to come along and share in the success of Orkney’s food and drink businesses.”
