Veteran Runner continues to go the distance

Scottish Sea Farms Eday site has today (8 August 2016) announced its continued support for Orkney-based ultra-marathon runner, William Sichel (62) with a second year of sponsorship. William took time out from his training schedule to visit SSF’s Eday site where he met staff and exchanged stories on his sporting achievements.

William is a British and Scottish international athlete and has set multiple distance running records (from 30 miles on the track to 3100 miles/ 5000 kms on the road) at World, British and Scottish level including age-group records.

Commenting on the sponsorship, William said: “Ultra-running isn’t a big money sport even though ultra-distance racing has a very long history and is currently experiencing a boom in popularity with thousands of races being held around the world. Even athletes who win races and set records rarely receive prize money or any financial rewards for their successes and achievements and most athletes have to meet all their racing and training expenses from their own pockets, so this continued sponsorship from Scottish Sea Farms is really appreciated.”

Phil Boardman, Scottish Sea Farms Eday Site Manager, said: “William is an inspiration and a great example of what can be achieved at any age. We are delighted to be able to support him again this year.”
