Orkney Food and Drink members will once again be showcasing their products at the two largest agricultural shows in the islands this week.
Visitors to the Dounby and County Shows on Thursday 11th and Saturday 13th August will be able to sample the very best of the Orkney larder, including ice cream, cheese, chocolate, seafood, whisky and much more.
Two local butchers will also be on hand with BBQs – so even if the weather doesn’t play ball it will still feel like summer!
The Dounby Show will feature Orkney Ice Cream, Greentoft Farm Produce, Orkney Fishermen’s Society, the Island Smokery, Stockan’s Oatcakes, Westray Chutney, the Dounby Butcher and new member Orkney Peedie Chocs and Desserts.
A special ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ event at 1130 at the Dounby Show will focus on Orkney’s finest food and drink too.
Many of the producers will also be manning stalls at the County Show’s ‘Orkney Village’ in Kirkwall’s Bignold Park on Saturday. They’ll be joined by Orkney Isles Preserves, Williamsons Butchers, Highland Park and the Scapa Distillery.
Orkney Food and Drink Development Manager, Edgar Balfour, said: ‘The shows are the centrepiece of the Orcadian summer and thousands of people will visit the events. It’s a great chance for our members to promote their products to a new audience and hopefully everyone will enjoy a real taste of Orkney during their days out.’
