New Chef for Amateur Master Chef 2015

Organisers of this month’s Orkney MasterChef competition have announced a change in the line-up of amateur cooks taking part in the event.

Ray Patterson, one of four local chefs chosen to participate by Orkney Food and Drink, has had to withdraw from the contest because of a work commitment.

He’ll be replaced by Orphir’s Caroline Critchlow, whose name was drawn as a reserve on the day the original four competitors were selected live on BBC Radio Orkney.

Caroline will now go head-to-head with Erica Clarkson, Kerry Leask and Firdosh Shaikh at the event, being held in the Orkney Theatre on 30 September.

Each amateur chef will have to prepare a three-course meal, using the very best Orkney produce, in front of a live audience. A panel of expert judges will then decide who should claim the coveted Orkney Amateur MasterChef title. Members of the audience will also get the chance to play their part, with some selected to sample the delicious dishes put together by the contestants.

Tickets for the competition - which is being sponsored by North Link Ferries and Jewson - are selling fast, with only limited numbers now available from Argo’s in Kirkwall or by contacting Edgar Balfour on 761430 or email orkneyfood@outlook.com.
