The Orkney Amateur Master Chef competition is now just over two weeks away and the four contestants are busy perfecting their menus for the big night.
Over the coming days we’re going to introduce you to the four talented cooks who will be testing their skills in front of a live audience on the night.
First up, meet Colin Luke, who will be using some of Orkney’s finest and freshest ingredients as part of his menu.
NAME: Colin Luke
MASTER CHEF 2017 MENU: Starter – Cullen Skink Soup; Main – Cheese stuffed Fillet Steak with Sweet Potato Mash; Dessert – Chocolate Surprise.
WHY DID YOU ENTER: I didn’t, it is all my wife’s doing!
HOW ARE YOU PREPARING: Lots and lots of practice.
HOW EXPERIENCED IN THE KITCHEN ARE YOU: I just enjoy good, home cooking. I used to work shifts so I often had time during the day to think about making some different dishes.
FAVOURITE DISH: Curry.
FAVOURITE INGREDIENTS: Chilli and Garlic.
GUILTY PLEASURE: Battered Crabsticks.
ANY COOKING-RELATED DISASTERS: I once burnt a beautiful piece of Rib Roast, something my wife wasn’t too delighted about!
SECRET KITCHEN TALENT: Making things up as I go along!
