Great food and drink is part of everyday life in Orkney, but throughout the year many special events take place – from the Orkney Folk Festival and world-renowned St Magnus Festival and the Orkney Science Festival, to our busy local agricultural shows and farmers’ markets – with local produce always available to try or buy.
During the year OFD members also attend key trade shows throughout the country, including the Scotland’s Speciality Food Show and the Royal Highland Show, flying the flag for the Orkney brand and introducing their products to new customers.
All local activities carried out by Orkney Food & Drink are supported by our main sponsor NorthLink Ferries. With NorthLink Ferries, travelling to Orkney and Shetland is more convenient than ever before. Choose from up to three sailings a day from Scrabster (near Thurso) to Stromness in Orkney and nightly sailings from Aberdeen to Lerwick in Shetland – with four of these sailings going via Orkney’s capital, Kirkwall. www.northlinkferries.co.uk
There are currently no upcoming events.
Once again Orkney Food & Drink members will populate the "Food Hall" within the Showpark on the biggest day of the West Mainland farming calendar. Burger Rolls, Crab Rolls, Smoked Fish Rolls, Home Bakes, Oatcakes, Cheeses, Ice-Cream, etc etc. Come along and see us - rain or shine. We will also be running the popular Cooking event. This year to be run twice - once before and once after lunchtime.
Orkney County Show
The biggest day in the Orkney Calendar - bar none. And Orkney Food & Drink will once again be there in prime position as you walk in through the main gates. It really IS worth joining the queues to get that special Orkney burger, roll, cake, cheese - or even dram!
Another event centred and focussed on our smaller members. A selection of top class Orkney Food & Drink products will be available to shoppers in Kirkwall on Saturday. Stalls are open from 12pm till 4.30pm. If you are looking for your lunch - try one of Naomi's Orkney Buffalo steaks, or maybe a fresh Orkney crab roll. Then maybe some of Peedie Chocs & Desserts fayre for pudding. Before you leave - be sure to buy some of Thelma's traditional Orkney home-bakes from Greentoft Free-range, and a jar or two of Ann's Fair Trade Chutney's from Westray.
Now firmly established as a favourite in the local food calendar, this biennial event is once again to be held in the Orkney Theatre in 2017. If you want to put yourself forward as one of the four amateur chefs on the night - just click the "View More Information" link below and enter your details. Pre-Christmas public event at Scapa Distillery. Following on from the very successful inaugural running of this event, held in Highland Park Distillery in 2016, it is to feature again in 2017. This time it is in Orkney's other famous whisky distillery - Scapa. A Christmas fayre with local producers and makers selling their wares. Stalls will be dressed for Christmas and there will be a range of other features, new and old, that will be taking place on the day. Full details will be publicised later in the year.
