Here you'll find details of all the activities and events involving OFD members.
Congratulations to COLIN LUKE - Orkney Amateur Master Chef 2017
Great food and drink is part of everyday life in Orkney, but throughout the year many special events take place – from the Orkney Folk Festival and world-renowned St Magnus Festival and the Orkney Science Festival, to our busy local agricultural shows and farmers’ markets – with local produce always available to try or buy.
During the year OFD members also attend key trade shows throughout the country, including the Scotland’s Speciality Food Show and the Royal Highland Show, flying the flag for the Orkney brand and introducing their products to new customers.
All local activities carried out by Orkney Food & Drink are supported by our main sponsor NorthLink Ferries. With NorthLink Ferries, travelling to Orkney and Shetland is more convenient than ever before. Choose from up to three sailings a day from Scrabster (near Thurso) to Stromness in Orkney and nightly sailings from Aberdeen to Lerwick in Shetland – with four of these sailings going via Orkney’s capital, Kirkwall. www.northlinkferries.co.uk
There are currently no upcoming events.
Scottish Speciality Food Show
This trade show has become a regular for OFD members. Attending in 2018 are regulars: Jollys of Orkney, Orkney Creamery, Orkney Bakery and Orkney Distilling. Joining them this year will be Orkney Craft Vinegar. New and existing trade customers will, as usual, be welcomed to the new look "Orkney" stand.
Food & Drink Expo 2018, the biggest food and drink show in 2018 provides the number one route to the UK food and drink market, helping hundreds of companies showcase their wares. Attending from Orkney in 2018 will be: Island Smokery, Orkney Bakery, Orkney Craft Vinegar, Orkney Creamery, Orkney Distilling and Stockans Oatcakes.
Orkney's annual festival celebrating the vibrant folk music scene in Orkney. Orkney Food & Drink Members set up tents on the Stromness Pierhead on Saturday offering delicious Orkney fayre to festival revellers
This event is aimed specifically at the "Peedie Producers" in Orkney. We have a range of stands in the car park area next to St Magnus Cathedral with the smaller members and associate members of Orkney Food & Drink exhibiting. Goods available to sample and buy.
The Summer Fancy Food Show is the largest specialty food industry trade event in North America, and the premier showcase for industry innovation. 2017 featured more exciting new events, programs, and exhibitors than ever before and 2018 look to be even better.
Once again Orkney Food & Drink members will populate the "Food Hall" within the Showpark on the biggest day of the West Mainland farming calendar. Burger Rolls, Crab Rolls, Smoked Fish Rolls, Home Bakes, Oatcakes, Cheeses, Ice-Cream, etc etc. Come along and see us - rain or shine. We also hope to have some new foodie demonstrations on the day.
Orkney County Show
Quite simply, the biggest day in the Orkney Calendar - bar none. Orkney Food & Drink will once again be there right next to the Main Ring. It really IS worth joining the queues to get that special Orkney steak burger, crab roll, cup of chowder, cake, cheese - or even a peedie dram!
Another event centred and focussed on our smaller members. A selection of top class Orkney Food & Drink products will be available to shoppers in Kirkwall on Saturday. Stalls are open from 12pm till 4.00pm. If you are looking for your lunch - try one of Naomi's Orkney Buffalo steaks, or maybe a fresh Orkney crab roll. Then maybe some of Peedie Chocs & Desserts fayre for pudding. Before you leave - be sure to buy some of Thelma's traditional Orkney home-bakes, jams and chutneys from Greentoft Free-range.
The culmination of the year’s events, when the winners of the thirteen categories will be announced in a prestigious gala dinner which is open to the locals and visitors alike. A fitting end to the year and a great night out to celebrate all that is best in Food & Drink in Orkney. The event will again be sponsored by our main partners: NorthLink Ferries.
